Dodge is a car manufacturing company that was founded by the dodge brothers, John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge, in the 1990s. By then, the company was a supplier of automobile parts for companies in Detroit. After the demise of the Dodge brothers, Dillon, Read and Co acquired the company in 1925 and in 1928 sold to Chrysler. Most of the cars then were trucks and full-sized cars but because of the oil crisis of 1973, the company developed midsize cars in 1981. The ownership of the company has since gone through the hands of Daimler-Benz AG, Cerberus Capital Management in 2007 and then Fiat after it was bailed out by the government in 2009. In 2011, Ram, Dodge and Dodge’s Viper were separated only to be merged back in 2014.

As the Dodge Company has grown, it is the trucks that have earned it great popularity. The Ram brand, although it is now marketed individually following the split in 2009, has always been a part of Dodge evidenced by the emblems inside it. The manufacture of pickups and medium trucks took off in 1914. Initially, they were passenger cars but as soon as the market for their body designs and chassis matured, they were used for goods. These were made at the Warren Truck assembly, which was created in 1938. The end of the world war saw the introduction of the four-wheel drive in what was called the Power Wagon. Since then, Dodge has been on and off in the business but was revived by the medium duty chassis-cab models in 2007.

Dodge’s first van model was built in 1964 in what was called the A Series. The need to develop a bigger and stronger van, the B series, was introduced in 1971. This offered comfort in the Sportsman passenger line as well as great room in the cargo line. In 1999, new developments were made and a Dodge treatment was given to Mercedes Benz Sprinter type of vans.

Dodge has also ventured in sports utility vehicles with the first appearing in 1950. The Ramchanger was among the earliest versions released in 1974 with a V8 engine. The field of sports utility vehicles was rejuvenated in 1997 with the Durango SUV, which has been redesigned over and over to be able to beat off competition. The Dodge brand has been evidently tested and tried over the years, so visit one of the car dealerships for proper guidance on the available deals.
